The Royal School of Needlework was founded in 1872 and is the international centre of excellence for the art of hand embroidery.  Based at Hampton Court Palace in south west London it offers a range of embroidery courses from day classes for beginners, a Certificate and Diploma course, a Future Tutors programme and  Degree programmes.  As a unique institution it teaches in the USA and Japan as well as regionally throughout the UK. The RSN Studio undertakes new commissions and conservation work. Clients have included fashion designers, Oscar nominees, Cathedrals, private individuals and the Royal Family.


Lecturer: Susan Kay-Williams

Dr Susan Kay-Williams is the Chief Executive of the Royal School of Needlework, a post she has held for 7 years. She has a background in non-profit organisations and her PhD is in non-profit marketing and fundraising. Her current role brings together her academic and non-profit background with her interest in textiles. In 1988 she learned to dye fibres and this in turn led to the research for her book, The Story of colour in textiles which was published in 2013. Susan is an accredited lecturer for NADFAS and has been asked to lecture across the UK as well as in Japan, China, Taiwan and recently gave more than ten lectures in the USA.
